Barcelona have eased fears over Lamine Yamal’s fitness after confirming the teenager has a hamstring injury, but the club expects him to recover in time for the World Cup.
The winger will miss the rest of the domestic season, yet the latest update is a major boost for Spain and Barcelona supporters.
Yamal picked up the injury during Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, where he scored a penalty before coming off with discomfort in his left hamstring.
Early reports sparked concern that the problem could be serious, with some outlets warning he might even face a race against time to be ready for the tournament.
Barcelona’s official assessment has since painted a more optimistic picture.
The club said Yamal has a left hamstring injury, will be treated conservatively, and will miss the remainder of the season.
Even so, Barcelona added that he is expected to be available for the World Cup, which suggests the injury is not being treated as a tournament-ending setback.
That update matters because Yamal has become one of Spain’s most important attacking players. His pace, dribbling, and creativity give Spain a different dimension in the final third, and losing him for a major tournament would have been a huge blow.
There is still a note of caution, however.
Hamstring injuries vary in severity, and his final availability will depend on how well he responds to treatment and rehabilitation over the coming weeks.
For now, though, the outlook is positive and the expectation is that he will make the squad for the World Cup.
