Arsenal Close In on Viktor Gyökeres Deal After Add-Ons Delay

Arsenal are on the verge of securing the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP in a deal that has seen its fair share of twists—mainly over how €10 million in add-ons should be structured.

While the two clubs have already agreed on a base fee of €63.5 million (approximately £55 million), the final hurdle has been how those extra performance-based payments will be triggered. Sporting wants the add-ons to be easily achievable, but Arsenal are holding firm, offering only €3 million in guaranteed bonuses, with the rest tied to tougher milestones.

Despite the tug-of-war, talks have progressed positively. Gyökeres’s agent has even waived his commission to push the move forward, a rare but telling gesture that reflects how much the player wants to join the Gunners.

The 26-year-old striker, who scored 43 goals for Sporting last season, has made his stance clear—he has refused to return to training, signaling his intent to force through the transfer. Arsenal are hoping to finalize the deal before they leave for their pre-season tour in Asia later this month.

Once complete, Gyökeres is expected to sign a five-year contract and immediately bolster Arsenal’s attacking options alongside Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

The deal, including bonuses, is set to rise to around £63 million–£64 million, making it one of Arsenal’s biggest ever striker investments.

What’s Next?

A medical and formal signing could happen in the coming days.

If all goes to plan, Viktor Gyökeres could wear an Arsenal shirt in Soon, as the Gunners kick off their pre-season tour.

Stay tuned as this deal edges toward the finish line.
