Brighton Stun Manchester City with Late Winner at the Amex

Manchester City suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat after a dramatic 2–1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

The defending champions looked on course for victory when Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 34th minute. The Norwegian striker marked his 100th Premier League appearance with his 88th league goal, underlining his incredible scoring record.

But the game turned in the second half. A handball by Matheus Nunes gifted Brighton a penalty, and veteran midfielder James Milner, at 39 years old, calmly converted to become the oldest-ever penalty scorer in Premier League history.

City pressed for a winner, but Brighton had the final say. Deep into stoppage time, Brajan Gruda broke free of the offside trap, rounded goalkeeper James Trafford, and slotted home the decisive goal, sending the home crowd into raptures.

A Concerning Start for City

The defeat means City have now lost back-to-back league games following their 2–0 defeat to Tottenham. With just one win from their opening three fixtures, questions are being asked about Pep Guardiola’s side, particularly their defensive organization in key moments.

Brighton Rising

For Brighton, it was a statement victory. Having now beaten City 2–1 at home for the second season running, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are quickly building a reputation as one of the most fearless teams in the league.
