Paris Saint-Germain took a significant step toward retaining their Ligue 1 crown on Friday night, overcoming a resilient Toulouse FC side with a 3-1 victory at the Parc des Princes.
The win, fueled by a masterclass from Ousmane Dembélé, extends PSG’s lead at the top of the table to four points over second-placed RC Lens.
The fixture was brought forward to Friday to allow Luis Enrique’s men extra recovery time before their highly anticipated UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool next Wednesday.
PSG started with intent, and it didn’t take long for their pressure to pay off.
In the 23rd minute, Ousmane Dembélé broke the deadlock with a moment of pure technical brilliance, smashing a stunning volley from the edge of the box into the top corner.
However, the lead was short-lived. Just four minutes later, a rare lapse from goalkeeper Matvey Safonov allowed Toulouse’s Rasmus Nicolaisen to loop a header into the far corner, momentarily stunning the Parisian faithful.
PSG’s response was clinical. Before the break, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia flicked on a corner toward the back post, where Dembélé was waiting to side-foot home his second of the night in the 34th minute.
While Dembélé thought he had secured a hat-trick in the second half, the goal was ultimately ruled out for offside.
The victory was finally put beyond doubt in stoppage time when substitute Gonçalo Ramos unleashed a curling effort from 25 yards that clipped the post on its way in, sealing the 3-1 scoreline.
While tonight was about domestic dominance, all eyes now turn to Wednesday, April 8. PSG will host Liverpool FC in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. With key players like Dembélé in peak form, the Parc des Princes is set for one of the biggest European nights of the season.
Match Verdict: A professional performance that handles business at home while keeping the momentum high for the European stage.
