Ghana Sack Otto Addo Just 72 Days Before World Cup

Ghana have made a dramatic decision ahead of the World Cup, parting ways with head coach Otto Addo just 72 days before the tournament begins.

The move follows a poor run of results, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany and a heavy 5-1 loss against Austria, raising serious concerns about the team’s form heading into the global competition.

The Ghana national football team have struggled in recent months, losing their last four matches and failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite having talented players such as Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo, performances on the pitch have not matched expectations, leading the Ghana Football Association to act swiftly.

In an official statement, the Ghana Football Association confirmed that it had “parted ways” with Addo with immediate effect, adding that a new technical direction for the team will be announced soon.

The timing of the decision highlights the urgency within the federation to stabilise the squad before the World Cup kicks off.

Ghana have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

They are set to open their campaign against Panama before facing England in what is expected to be a high-profile encounter, followed by a clash against Croatia.

With limited time remaining, the appointment of a new manager will be crucial in shaping Ghana’s chances of progressing beyond the group stage.

Addo, who began his second spell in charge in March 2024, leaves under pressure after results failed to improve.

Now, all attention turns to who will take over and whether the Black Stars can recover in time to compete on the world stage.
