Alexander Isak is set to make a long-awaited return to team training, giving Liverpool FC a timely boost ahead of a huge FA Cup clash.
Head coach Arne Slot confirmed that the Swedish striker will rejoin full training on Thursday after months on the sidelines.
For Liverpool, this is more than just a recovery—it’s a major lift at a defining stage of the season.
A difficult road back
Isak has been out since December following a serious injury that required surgery.
The forward suffered a fibula fracture and ankle damage during a dramatic moment against Tottenham Hotspur.
The injury came after a challenge involving Micky van de Ven, in a match where Isak actually managed to score—highlighting his determination even in adversity.
Since then, the 26-year-old has undergone months of recovery, working tirelessly behind the scenes to regain fitness.
Slot’s update: “He’s in a good place”
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming fixture, Slot provided a positive update on his striker:
Isak is “in a really good place” and ready to train with the squad again.
The manager also pointed to a mental boost, with Sweden qualifying for the World Cup—adding further motivation for the forward as he returns to action.
After three to four months of rehabilitation, stepping back onto the training pitch marks a significant milestone.
Big test awaits at the Etihad
Liverpool now turn their attention to a blockbuster FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
While Isak may not immediately start, his return offers:
Greater attacking depth
Tactical flexibility
A psychological boost to the squad
With crucial matches piling up, having a £125 million striker back in contention could prove decisive.
A record signing under pressure
Isak arrived from Newcastle United in a British-record deal, bringing huge expectations with him.
Before his injury, he made 16 appearances and scored three goals—a modest return, but one shaped by adaptation and fitness challenges.
Now, with a fresh start ahead, the striker has a chance to reset his Liverpool career at the most important time of the season.
