Mbappé Hospitalised with Gastroenteritis, Misses Club World Cup Opener

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has been admitted to hospital with an acute case of gastroenteritis after missing the club’s FIFA Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal.

The France captain, 26, sat out of training on Tuesday due to a fever and was absent from Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with the Saudi Arabian side. A statement from Real Madrid on Thursday confirmed his condition and said he was hospitalised for further testing.

Gastroenteritis, commonly known as a stomach bug, is an infection of the gut that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. The club has not indicated whether Mbappé will be available for their next fixture against Pachuca on Sunday at 20:00 BST.

Mbappé has had a strong start to life in Madrid, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances during his debut season after joining from Paris Saint-Germain. Under new manager Xabi Alonso, who succeeded Carlo Ancelotti, Real have already lifted the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup this season.

Fans will be hoping for a swift recovery as the Spanish giants continue their quest for another international title.
