Middlesbrough FC have parted ways with head coach Michael Carrick following a disappointing 10th-place finish in the 2024–25 Championship season. The club announced the decision in a concise 60-word statement, confirming the departure of Carrick and his assistants, Jonathan Woodgate and Graeme Carrick.
Carrick, who took over in October 2022, initially led Boro to a fourth-place finish and a spot in the play-offs. However, subsequent seasons saw the team finish eighth and then tenth, failing to secure promotion. Despite signing a new contract in 2024, the team’s inconsistent performance, including a poor run of form in the latter part of the recent season, led to increased pressure and ultimately his dismissal.
The club expressed gratitude for the trio’s commitment and stated that no further comments would be made at this time.
Potential replacements are being considered, with former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper reportedly among the candidates.
