Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign midfielder Jacob Ramsey in a deal worth £40 million.
The 22-year-old, who has been one of Villa’s standout academy graduates, is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days before finalising personal terms with the Magpies.
Eddie Howe has been keen to add more creativity and energy to his midfield, and Ramsey’s arrival will provide depth and versatility ahead of a busy Premier League and European campaign.
Known for his driving runs, technical skill, and eye for goal, Ramsey is seen as a player who can develop into a key figure at St James’ Park.
For Aston Villa, the sale will help ease their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) pressures, although losing a homegrown talent is a blow to their long-term project.
Villa boss Unai Emery had hoped to keep Ramsey but admitted the financial realities of the game forced the club’s hand.
