Newcastle Land AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw in £35m Summer Coup

Newcastle United have secured the signing of highly-rated defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan in a deal worth £30 million plus £4.3 million in add-ons. The 23-year-old arrives at St James’ Park after a successful spell in Serie A, where he built a reputation as a strong, composed, and versatile defender.

The Magpies had been tracking Thiaw for over a year and fended off late interest from Manchester United to get the deal over the line. Capable of playing at centre-back, right-back, and even in defensive midfield, Thiaw offers Eddie Howe valuable flexibility and depth as Newcastle prepare for a busy season domestically and in Europe.

Speaking after signing, Thiaw said:

“I’m really excited to join this massive club. I can’t wait to start training and meet my new teammates. The project here is ambitious, and I’m ready to give my all.”

Manager Eddie Howe praised the new arrival, calling him “a player of real quality with great European experience.” Thiaw will wear the number 12 shirt for the Magpies and is expected to slot straight into Newcastle’s defensive plans.

This signing marks another statement of intent from Newcastle as they look to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead, both in the Premier League and on the European stage.
