Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time in Turkey has officially come to an end. The former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder has seen his contract with Beşiktaş terminated a year early, bringing his two-year stint in Istanbul to a close.
A Costly Separation
Beşiktaş confirmed that the decision was made by mutual consent, with the club opting to pay out a severance package reported between £1.2 million and €1.75 million. While costly, the deal was considered cheaper than continuing to cover the midfielder’s wages until 2026.
Mixed Fortunes in Turkey
Oxlade-Chamberlain made around 50 appearances, scoring five goals and helping the Black Eagles lift both the Turkish Cup and the Super Cup. However, his time was marred by familiar struggles — a string of injuries and limited opportunities under current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær left him out of the club’s long-term plans.
What’s Next for the “Ox”?
Now a free agent, the 31-year-old has already been linked with a return to England. Championship sides Leeds United and Leicester City are reportedly keeping tabs, while a potential Premier League comeback hasn’t been ruled out.
