Real Madrid Complete £51.8m Move for Chelsea Defender Marc Cucurella

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £51.8 million (€60 million).

The 27-year-old has agreed a six-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2032.

Cucurella becomes one of Real Madrid’s first major additions under returning manager José Mourinho, who reportedly identified the Spain international as a key target to strengthen the club’s defence ahead of the new season.

The defender joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022 and went on to make more than 150 appearances for the Blues.

After a difficult start in London, he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent left-backs and helped Chelsea win both the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025.

The transfer fee is reported to be £47.5 million upfront, with a further £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons, taking the total package to £51.8 million.

Cucurella is currently with the Spanish national team at the FIFA World Cup and is expected to officially join his new teammates after the tournament concludes.

For Chelsea, the departure marks the end of a four-year spell for one of their most experienced defenders, while Real Madrid gain a proven international who arrives with experience at both club and international level, including Spain’s triumph at UEFA Euro 2024.
