Rúben Amorim Admits Uncertainty Over Future Amid Manchester United Struggles

Rúben Amorim, the current manager of Manchester United, has publicly acknowledged that his position at the club could be at risk if the team’s poor Premier League form continues. Despite leading the Red Devils to the UEFA Europa League final, United’s domestic performance has been nothing short of disastrous — sitting 16th in the table with just two games remaining.

Appointed in November 2024, Amorim was seen as a bold and ambitious choice following the departure of Erik ten Hag and interim stint by Ruud van Nistelrooy. Known for his tactical discipline and success at Sporting CP, many believed Amorim could spark a new era at Old Trafford. However, the transition has been rocky.

After a disheartening 2-0 defeat to West Ham, Amorim didn’t shy away from the pressure, telling the media:

“If the form doesn’t improve, maybe I’m not the right person to lead the team. Manchester United deserves better results and higher standards.”

While the European campaign has been a bright spot — United face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on May 21 — the Premier League woes have raised questions about the team’s direction, morale, and long-term planning.

Interestingly, Amorim still enjoys the backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new co-owner, who stated in a recent interview that he believes the Portuguese manager will “stay for a long time.” But with fan unrest growing and top players reportedly unsettled, speculation about Amorim’s future is intensifying.

Regardless of what happens in the Europa League final, it’s clear that major decisions loom for Manchester United this summer. Will Amorim be given the time and resources to rebuild, or will Old Trafford once again witness another managerial change?

One thing is certain: the next few weeks will shape not just Amorim’s future, but the trajectory of Manchester United’s revival ambitions.
