Senegal appeal date set after AFCON win overturned
Senegal’s appeal to regain the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on 8 October 2026 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The hearing comes after CAF’s Appeals Board controversially overturned Senegal’s victory and awarded the title to Morocco
The dispute stems from the dramatic AFCON final in Rabat. Senegal originally won 1-0 after extra time, but CAF later ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match because the team temporarily walked off the pitch in protest over a late penalty decision.
As a result, the final score was officially changed to 3-0 in Morocco’s favor, making Morocco the tournament champions.
The Senegalese Football Federation strongly rejected the decision, arguing that the punishment was disproportionate and that the match had resumed and been completed.
They appealed to CAS, which has now scheduled the case for 8 October.
A final ruling is expected sometime after the hearing, although no date has yet been announced.
The CAS verdict could become one of the most significant legal decisions in African football history, as it will determine whether Morocco keeps the AFCON title or whether Senegal’s on-field victory is reinstated.
