Trossard the Difference as Arsenal Grind Out Win at Fulham

Arsenal climbed three points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a gritty 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, thanks to a decisive second-half goal from Leandro Trossard.

Despite missing captain Martin Ødegaard through injury, Mikel Arteta’s side found a way — as they so often do — with a disciplined performance and just enough attacking edge to get the job done.

Eze In, Ødegaard Out

Arteta handed a start to Eberechi Eze, who slotted in for Ødegaard in midfield. The decision raised a few eyebrows, but it underlined the manager’s trust in the squad’s depth and flexibility.

It was Fulham, however, who made the brighter start. The hosts were aggressive, pressing high and causing problems early on. Harry Wilson and Josh King both threatened, with King drawing a strong save from David Raya.

VAR Frustrations and Narrow Margins

Arsenal thought they had taken the lead through Riccardo Calafiori after a beautifully worked move — only for VAR to chalk it off for offside. It was a marginal call, and yet another reminder of how tight the margins can be in the Premier League.

The Gunners eventually found their rhythm, dominating possession and territory after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute.

Trossard Delivers — Again

From a well-rehearsed set-piece, Bukayo Saka delivered a pinpoint corner, Gabriel rose to flick it on, and Trossard was lurking at the far post to steer the ball home. It was a classic poacher’s finish — instinctive, composed, and crucial.

Trossard has quietly become one of Arsenal’s most dependable performers in the big moments. Whether starting or coming off the bench, his impact has been invaluable this season.

VAR Takes Centre Stage Again

Not long after the goal, Bukayo Saka looked to have won a penalty after a challenge in the box. Referee Anthony Taylor initially pointed to the spot — but VAR intervened. After a lengthy review, the decision was overturned, with replays showing the Fulham defender got just enough of the ball.

It was the kind of call that could have gone either way — and had it stood, it might have put the game out of reach. Instead, Arsenal had to stay sharp and see out the match with a narrow lead.

Top of the Table – for Now

The win puts Arsenal three points clear of Manchester City, who had briefly gone top earlier in the day after beating Everton. Liverpool remain four points back with a game in hand, set to face Manchester United on Sunday.

It wasn’t a perfect performance from the Gunners, but it was exactly the kind of result title contenders need to grind out. Controlled, patient, and just enough quality in front of goal — the hallmarks of a team that knows how to win when it matters.
