Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Spanish midfield maestro Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a deal worth £51 million (€60 million), marking a significant move in their summer transfer campaign.
The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Emirates, becoming the Gunners’ second major signing of the 2025 transfer window after securing goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga earlier in June.
Despite strong interest from top clubs including Real Madrid and Liverpool, Zubimendi opted for North London after being convinced by Mikel Arteta’s project, playing style, and long-term vision. Arsenal activated his release clause, and the transfer fee will be paid in structured installments.
“I believe in what Arsenal are building here. The team, the manager, the fans — it all feels like a perfect fit,” Zubimendi said during his unveiling.
Zubimendi is expected to bring intelligence, composure, and defensive stability to the Arsenal midfield, forming a strong partnership alongside Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard. His arrival comes as a timely reinforcement following the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, as Arsenal aim to challenge for silverware on all fronts next season.
This move also matches Real Sociedad’s record sale — the same figure received for Alexander Isak’s transfer to Newcastle — and places Zubimendi among the most expensive Spanish players in history.
With the deal done and pre-season underway, all eyes are on how Zubimendi will adapt to Premier League football and elevate Arsenal’s midfield to new heights.
