Arsenal on Verge of Signing Gyökeres After Portugal Meeting

Arsenal are closing in on a major summer signing, with Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres edging closer to a move from Sporting CP following face-to-face talks in Portugal.

Gunners’ sporting director Andrea Berta personally flew to Lisbon last week to accelerate negotiations. The club has already agreed personal terms with Gyökeres, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at the Emirates.

Sporting are holding firm on their €70 million (£59.3m) asking price, plus €10 million in performance-related add-ons. Arsenal’s latest bid is reportedly worth around £69 million in total — including £56 million upfront.

In a show of commitment, Gyökeres has agreed to forgo more than £1.7 million in wages to help push the deal through, underlining his desire to join Mikel Arteta’s project.

The 26-year-old forward enjoyed a phenomenal season in Portugal, scoring 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions. His explosive form has made him Arsenal’s top priority as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

The club is aiming to complete the deal before their pre-season tour in Singapore begins on July 19.

If finalized, Gyökeres would become one of Arsenal’s most expensive signings and a major statement of intent as they continue their pursuit of silverware both domestically and in Europe.
