Chelsea Agree British Record £117m Deal for Morgan Rogers

Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign England international Morgan Rogers in a £117 million deal, a fee that would make him the most expensive British player in football history.

The 23-year-old is expected to sign a six-year contract, with the option of a further year, after completing a medical on Monday.

Rogers has emerged as one of the Premier League’s brightest attacking talents since joining Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in 2024.

During the 2025–26 campaign, he was instrumental in Villa’s success, producing goals and assists while helping the club lift the Europa League.

His impressive performances also earned him a regular place in the England national team.

Chelsea moved quickly to secure the deal despite strong interest from Arsenal, who had identified Rogers as one of their top transfer targets.

Reports indicate that Chelsea’s project under manager Xabi Alonso and the club’s long-term vision played a significant role in convincing the player to choose Stamford Bridge.

The transfer surpasses Chelsea’s previous club-record signing of Moisés Caicedo and signals the club’s intent to compete for major honours after a disappointing domestic season.

Rogers is expected to add pace, creativity, and versatility to Chelsea’s attack, with the ability to play across multiple forward positions.

For Aston Villa, the sale represents a huge financial return on a player they signed for a fraction of the reported fee.

While losing one of their standout performers is a major blow, the transfer provides the club with significant funds to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.

If completed as expected, this will be one of the biggest transfers of the summer and one of the most expensive deals ever involving a British footballer
