No Goals, No Glory, No Gala: Man United’s Season Ends in Silence

After a season to forget, Manchester United have decided to cancel their traditional end-of-season awards gala. With a finish expected in 16th place—marking their worst-ever Premier League campaign—the club has opted to skip the celebrations this year.

The usual end-of-season dinner, where players, coaches, and staff gather to celebrate individual and team achievements, will not take place at Old Trafford this time around. Instead, Manchester United officials have deemed it inappropriate to throw a party amidst a season filled with disappointing performances and lingering uncertainty.

However, the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award will still be presented before their final match of the season against Aston Villa on May 25. No red carpets, no champagne, just a low-key affair.

And while the gala may be off, there’s still a chance for a celebration of sorts if Manchester United clinch the Europa League trophy on May 21. But don’t expect an open-top bus parade. Instead, the team will mark the potential victory with a private gathering at Carrington, avoiding any grand displays due to ongoing renovations and scheduling issues.

This is the second consecutive year the club has canceled its awards dinner, a reflection of their acknowledgment that the season hasn’t gone according to plan. Let’s just hope next season brings more goals, glory, and, yes, maybe even a gala.
