Everton’s interest in Gabriel Jesus is starting to feel like folklore. Linked last summer, linked again in January, and still going strong this window — but for the first time, it actually feels close.
Why Now?
Arsenal are finally ready to let him go. With Mikel Arteta refreshing his attack and Jesus stuck behind Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, the Gunners have opened the door.
Everton, still searching for a fix up front after a quiet season from Thierno Barry, have made contact.
The appeal is obvious: a five-time Premier League champion, a Brazil international, and a proven goalscorer when fit.
The Catch
Two things keep slowing this down.
Wages.
Jesus earns around £265,000 a week at Arsenal — way beyond Everton’s careful, post-Moshiri wage structure.
He’d need to take a real pay cut to make it work.
Fitness. He started just three Premier League games last season after an ACL injury. Everton’s medical team is understandably cautious.
Arsenal have at least softened their price, now asking somewhere between £20-25 million — manageable, if the wages can be sorted.
Everton Aren’t Alone
Newcastle are also circling, and Milan, Juventus, and Palmeiras have all been credited with interest.
Some reports even suggest Jesus could fancy a return to Brazil instead.
A nice touch for Moyes, though: Jesus has scored eight goals in 11 career appearances against Everton. If he can’t be stopped, he might as well be recruited.
Bottom Line
Nothing’s signed yet. But after three windows of speculation, this is the closest the chase has ever looked to an actual transfer.
