Chelsea Receive Major Boost as Mudryk Is Cleared to Return
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to return to professional football with immediate effect after his long-running doping case was officially resolved.
The 25-year-old had been sidelined since late 2024 after testing positive for a low concentration of meldonium, a substance prohibited under anti-doping regulations at the time.
He initially received a four-year suspension and appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
During the appeal process, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) updated its scientific reporting standards.
Under the revised guidelines, the level of meldonium found in Mudryk’s sample would no longer have been reported as an anti-doping violation.
Following discussions between the Football Association (FA), WADA and Mudryk, all parties agreed to resolve the case by recognising the suspension he had already served.
As a result, Mudryk is now eligible to play immediately and is expected to rejoin Chelsea’s first-team squad as the club begins preparations for the new season.
Chelsea welcomed the outcome, stating that advances in scientific testing had provided important context to the case and reaffirmed their support for the Ukrainian international as he resumes his career after nearly two years away from competitive football.
Mudryk described the suspension as the most difficult period of his career and thanked his family, teammates, supporters and the club for standing by him. His return gives Chelsea another attacking option as he looks to rebuild his confidence and rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers before his suspension.
